Other Street Violence

Edinburgh is widely regarded as one of the safest cities in the UK, however street violence of varying levels continues to affect our communities.  Evidence suggests that alcohol plays a large part in these acts of violence and that a small number of streets account for a disproportionate amount of street violence.

There are many factors which can impact on levels of street violence and tackling the underlying causes calls for a multi-agency approach.  We will do this through, for example:

  • ensuring a co-ordinated approach to information sharing and joint tasking
  • developing a multi-agency risk assessment approach to violent crime
  • ensuring the prioritisation of warrants for acts of crime

Further details are available in the Edinburgh Violence Reduction Programme 2008-2013.
