Alcohol and the Night-Time Economy
Alcohol is a common factor in relation to levels of violence and is present in at least 50 per cent of all violent incidents.
Tackling the inappropriate use of alcohol and the promotion of responsible drinking are key to reducing the number of alcohol fuelled incidents recorded in Edinburgh. We will do this through:
- ensuring legislative compliance by licensed premises
- undertaking intelligence lead test purchasing of age restricted goods
- targeted enforcement initiatives
- supporting a more efficient departure of night time economy users from the city centre
- increasing public reassurance through a highly visible presence of both police and council officers
Further details are available in the Edinburgh Violence Reduction Programme 2008-2013.
